PREPARATIONS are underway for next month’s Bahrain Grand Prix.

The annual co-ordination meeting was held at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) which was attended by representatives from various ministries and government agencies in Bahrain.

During the meeting, BIC safety, security and governmental affairs senior manager Beshara Beshara conducted a presentation detailing plans in the organisation of the race which will be held from April 6 to 8.

This year’s Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix is the second of 21 rounds on the 2018 FIA Formula One World Championship.

Meanwhile, BIC chief executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa praised his team’s efforts to put the country on an international stage during a speech at a meeting of the Rotary Club of Sulmaniya.

“The person in race control that controls the race is a Bahraini, the marshals on the track that control the race are Bahrainis,” he said.

“This is something that no other circuit does, this is something very unique to us and we should be proud of it.”

He also spoke of the introduction of a Friday-only ticket, which has seen the main concert moved to the first day of the weekend.

“The Friday concert is the main concert, so we have Carlos Santana as the main artist on Friday and that means there is a bigger opportunity for people to just buy that ticket if they are not into motorsports,” he added.

There will also be roaming acts and plenty of children’s entertainment during the three-day weekend, with 180 people flying in to take part in the shows staged in the vending area.
