Gayageum band to strike a chord

THE Sookmyung Gayageum Orchestra will take to the stage in Bahrain tonight as part of the 2018 Spring of Culture festival.

Organised in collaboration with the Korean Embassy, the event will present an extensive repertoire of music played entirely on the gayageum, Korea’s iconic 12-stringed zither-like instrument.

Audiences will be treated to traditional Korean music, along with hits by the Beatles, South American folk songs and even a break-dance style rendition of Pachelbels ‘Canon’.

Established in 1999, the orchestra has set a new benchmark in the local cultural scene and brought the distinct sounds of Korean music to all corners of the globe. The concert will take place at the Cultural Hall from 8pm and entrance is free. For further information, visit
