Riyadh: The Saudi Ministry of Interior has launched a smartphone application which will help protect people against any encroachment on their privacy.
The ministry said that the new move is part of its efforts to clamp down on the misuse of smartphones to post offensive and damaging video recording footages and pictures, reports Arab News.
The ministry described the sending of malicious images via smartphones as “crossing a red line.”
Themed Kolonna Amn (“We are all security“), the new app enables users to make an official complaint in case their personal privacy is violated”, said the ministry.
Under the new Saudi regulations, lawbreakers convicted of trespassing people’s privacy could face up to one year in prison and/ or fined SR500,000 ($133,000).
