School Mini Olympics: Al Noor boys capture 3-on-3 basketball title

Al Noor International School clinched the intermediate boys’ stage 3-on-3 basketball championship at the fifth School Mini Olympics.

A hard-fought 5-4 win over the British School in the final, staged at the Bahrain Basketball Association gym, saw Al Noor win the trophy and with it the competition’s gold medal.

The champions made it to the final after defeating Al Iman School 11-10 in the semi-final, while the British School scored a 7-6 win over Ibn Khuldoon National School, who settled for the bronze beating Al Iman School 7-5 in the third-place match.

In the primary boys’ tournament, Modern Knowledge School ‘A’ were crowned winners beating their ‘B’ team 5-1 in the final. Middle East ‘A’ took the bronze after a 3-1 victory over their ‘B’ team in the third-place tie.

In the girls’ championship, staged at the Bahrain Sports Federation for People with Disabilities premises, Modern Knowledge School took the title after a 5-0 win over Shaikha Hessa School ‘B’.

Modern Knowledge reached the final after defeating bronze medallists Shaikha Hessa ’A’ 6-2 in the semi-finals, while Shaikha Hessa ‘B’ beat Indian School 2-0.

In the intermediate stage, Eastern School lifted the trophy after beating Sacred Heart ‘B’ in the final. The winners beat Indian School ‘B’ 2-1, while Sacred Heart edged Ibn Khuldoon in the semi-finals.

In fencing, Hamad Al Atawi of Hamad Town took the secondary boys’ foil title, beating Ali Hani of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Institute in the final. Shaikh Abdulla School’s Saud Al Atawi received the bronze along with A. Karim Isa.

In the secondary girls’ epee section, Maram Ahmed of Omayma bint Al Numan School captured the gold medal after defeating Shaikha Hessa’s Dana Khalil.

Hasan Al Thawadi of Othman bin Affan School topped the intermediate boys’ epee tournament, with school mate Mubarak Hani and Hamad Al Maran of A. Rahman Al Nasser School winning the silver and bronze, respectively.

Elsewhere, the football championships resumed with Hawar School beating Al Mahd 5-0 in the intermediate boys’ section, at Bahrain Football Association grounds.

In other matches, Askar School eased to a 3-0 win over Eastern School, the Indian School beat New Millennium, British School defeated Modern Knowledge 3-1, New Indian beat Creativity 3-0, Sacred Heart edged Middle East 1-0, Bangladesh beat A. Rahman Kanoo 3-0, Al Hekma defeated Al Noor 5-4 and Al Iman beat Shareefa Al Awadi 5-0.

The Mini Olympics is organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, with over 3,500 students from 58 government and private schools competing in a record 20 sports this year.
