Dud cheques topped the overall list of crimes and misdemeanours in the Sultanate of Oman last year.
The authorities have surveyed 4,714 criminal cases involving bounced cheques in 2017.
Updated statistics released by the Public Prosecution ranked narcotics-related crimes and thefts second and third, respectively.
Meanwhile, the overall number of juvenile cases, which represent two per cent of overall cases, dropped significantly from 1,090 in 2016 to 848 in 2017.
The number of cases registered by the Public Prosecution has dropped by 27.1pc to 27,686 in 2017 from 37,972 in 2016, according to Oman Observer.
Muscat Governorate had the highest number of cases (23.2pc) with a total of 6,435 cases followed by Batinah (13.3pc) with 3,674 cases.
The number of cases dropped in all directorates except for Dakhiliya and Sharqiya East, which registered a slight increase of 3pc and 1.7pc, respectively.
The major change took place in Dhofar where cases dropped by 50pc last year, said the Public Prosecution.
