Multiple part-time jobs without employer’s consent approved

UAE companies were given the green light to recruit employees on part-time work contracts from the country and abroad.

Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation Nasser bin Thani Al Hamli endorsed the new system allowing employees - both Emiratis and expats - to work for more than one employer without having to obtain an approval from their primary employer.

UAE nationals and expats wishing to have part-time jobs need just to apply for permits from the Human Resources and Emiratisation Ministry.

“Non-competitor clauses do not apply to such employees even if the employer claims conflict of interest related to divulging trade secrets, unless a court issues an order to this effect,” the minister said according to Khaleej Times.

The part-time contracts esentially concern highly specialised professions requiring sophisticated scientific, technical and administrative skill-sets with a minimum qualification requirement of a university degree.

The ministerial edict stipulates that a part-time contract cannot be changed into a full-time one unless it is terminated.
