An authority was set up in Saudi Arabia to be in charge of the cinema sector, according to Al Riyadh newspaper.
The Saudi General Authority for Culture (GAC) announced the establishment of the Saudi Film Council (SFC).
The establishment of the panel represents the first step in promoting cinema in the kingdom as one of the five main sectors supported by GAC.
In a statement on this occasion, GAC chief executive Ahmed Al Mazeed said that the new council would play a crucial role in spurring economic growth and development of Saudi history and culture.
The council will play a crucial role in developing cinema and creating a fertile environment for the film and content industry in Saudi Arabia.
The newly-established council will also focus on cultivating talent, infrastructure and advanced technology for technical production, provision of financing solutions and options, and initiatives to develop the cultural sector in Saudi Arabia.
SFC chief executive officer Faisal Batiour said that the council would work during the coming months to lay the foundations of a sustainable film sector in Saudi Arabia.
