The Court of Appeal in Abu Dhabi ruled against three Emirati women who expressed their desire to be recognised legally as males, Al Bayan reported.
The women had approached the court, seeking judicial approval of their new identity after undergoing female-to-male gender reassignment surgeries abroad.
The Abu Dhabi Court of Appeal upheld a first instance verdict, rejecting their application to recognise their new sexual identity.
Their lawyer Ali Abdulla Al Mansouri said his clients would challenge the appellate verdict and take their case to the UAE Supreme Federal Court.
He announced that he would request the judicial authorities to commission a medical committee to examine the women who suffered from sexual hormone disorders.
“My clients have undergone full reassignment surgeries abroad, including mastectomy and hysterectomy, and can never be women again,” said the lawyer.
He cited article 7 of the federal law 4 of 2016 on medical responsibility which allows transgender readjustment surgeries pending medical examination confirming hormonal problems.
