Two Asian thieves are facing legal action on charges of stealing jewellery valued at AED1.2 million from the villa of an Emirati employee.
The Public Prosecution charged the Chinese duo with the robbery and referred them to the Criminal Court in Dubai to stand trial, according to Al Bayan.
The defendants, aged 22 and 32, sneaked into the villa at night on September 14 and stole the jewellery from a safe before fleeing.
One of the thieves escaped from the UAE and returned to his country a day after the robbery, taking the stolen jewellery with him.
The 32-year-old accomplice, who was arrested before he could leave the UAE, admitted to taking part in the robbery.
The Emirati woman, 32, filed a complaint with the police on discovering the robbery.
The 22-year-old thief, a relative of the first defendant, was charged in absentia and referred to the court to stand trial.
