A 12-member Bahrain team will be competing today in the IAAF-Trinidad Alfonso World Half-Marathon Championships 2018 in Valencia, Spain.
The national squad features six men and six women. The women’s event is scheduled to get underway at 7.05pm, Bahrain time, followed by the men’s race at 7.30pm.
The women’s squad includes Dalila Abdulkadir, Eunice Chumba, Tejitu Daba, Shitaye Eshete, Desi Mokonin and reigning marathon world champion Rose Chelimo.
Chumba heads into the event with the leading personal and season’s best times.
Her personal best is one hour six minutes 11 seconds while her season’s best is 1:07:18.
Bahrain’s six men athletes are Aweke Ayalew, Alemu Bekele, Abraham Cheroben, Shumi Dechasa El Hassan Elabbassi and Albert Rop. Cheroben holds the leading personal best time of 58 minutes 40 seconds. Only Elabbassi has so far competed in a half-marathon this year, clocking 1:03:01. A total prize purse of $245,000 is up for grabs in Valencia.
