BAHRAIN’S Khalid bin Hamad Kickboxing Team finished third overall at the 9th Arab Clubs Kickboxing Championships held recently at the Sports Palace in Al Hussein Youth City in Amman.
The nationals claimed four medals in total, two gold, one silver and one bronze, on their debut in one of the region’s most challenging events.
Mohammed Abbas bagged both gold medals in the K1 and Full Contact contests while his teammate Abdulla Zayed claimed a silver and bronze.
The event saw over 80 kickboxers representing 10 Arab countries - Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Palestine and Jordan - battling for glory over three days in three styles - Full Contact, Semi and K1.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar was among high-ranking sports officials who welcomed the team back from Amman.
Askar congratulated the members of the team and conveyed the greetings of Shaikh Nasser in Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president, and Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, firs deputy chairman of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and honorary president of Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation. MMA president Khalid Al Khayyat said the achievement underlines the significant progress of this sport in Bahrain.
