Manama: Investment opportunities offered by Bahrain have been showcased to a delegation of representatives from leading German logistics and transportation companies by the Economic Development Board (EDB).

This came about during a meeting of the delegates with various Bahraini business representatives and EDB officials at the Bahrain Financial Harbour.

The meeting was organised by the German-Saudi Arabian Liaison Office for Economic Affairs, in collaboration with the EDB.

During the visit, the German delegation was introduced to Bahrain’s economic climate, including its key competitive advantages, such as its economic freedom, relatively low cost of living, high rate of human capital development and the diversification of the economy.

The delegation was also briefed about the kingdom’s positive performance on a number of key international indices and learned about the various opportunities available to potential investors.

“We welcome the German delegation’s visit, which reflects the level of interest from German investors in the kingdom and its rapidly growing transportation and logistics sector,” EDB chief executive Khalid Al Rumaihi said.

“Bahrain, with its high-quality infrastructure, excellent transportation networks and logistic services, is the ideal gateway to access GCC markets.”

This year, the EDB attended the 32nd International Supply Chain Conference which was held in Berlin, conducted a high-level official visit to Germany during which representatives took part in the Munich Transport Logistic Exhibition, and attended the sixth Ghorfa Education and Vocational Training Forum in Berlin.

Bahrain is home to a number of leading German businesses, including BASF, RMA Pipeline Equipment, SMS Meer Middle East, Ormosil, Allianz Global Investors and Hannover Re. Several logistics service businesses including DHL, Schmidt Heilbronn and Tilke & Partner are also based in Bahrain.

The EDB also has an office at the Bahrain Embassy in Berlin which provides information and support to German investors looking to invest in the kingdom.
