Muharraq are officially champions of the Bahrain NBB First Division Football League for the 34th time after Malkiya lost to Al Shabab 1-0 yesterday at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town.
Malkiya remained third with 27 points, while Muharraq are on top of the table with 38 points.
Before the match, Malkiya’s only hope of competing for the title race was a victory against Al Shabab and their remaining matches, and Muharraq losing all their matches.
However, Malkiya failed to score any goals against Al Shabab, who fired an injury time goal through Bab Silla.
Relagation
The win put Al Shabab away from relegation area, as they now have 19 points, eight points ahead of bottom place Ettihad.
In the day’s other match, Manama hit back from 1-0 down to beat Al Ahli 3-1.
The first half ended 1-0 for Al Ahli after Hussain Salman scored from the penalty spot.
Manama scored three goals in the second half, through Mohammed Al Rumaihi in the 50th and 63rd minutes, as well as Erick Luis in the 75th minute.
Manama now have 22 points, while Al Ahli remained with 12 points.
