LEGENDARY guitar maestro Carlos Santana is bringing his Divination Tour to Bahrain for Formula One weekend.
The 10 time Grammy Award winner will perform his first show in the country at Bahrain International Circuit on Friday.
The global superstar is a Mexican-American musician who rose to fame in the late 1960s with his band Santana, which pioneered a fusion of rock and Latin American jazz.
The band’s sound featured his melodic, blues-based guitar lines set against Latin and African rhythms with percussion instruments, such as timbales and congas.
He continued to work in these forms in the decades that followed, resulting in a resurgence of popularity and critical acclaim in the 1990s.
Santana is a legendary voice of world music and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
He received the Billboard Century Award in 1996; was ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998; received the Billboard Latin Music Awards’ Lifetime Achievement honour in 2009; and was the recipient of the Kennedy Centre Honours Award in 2013.
Among many other accolades Santana has been cited by Rolling Stone magazine as number 15 on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
Meanwhile, on Saturday American musician Benjamin Booker will perform at the BIC, followed by Grammy-nominated British duo Disclosure the same night.
Booker is a guitarist whose style falls into the blues rock genre.
The 28-year-old rising star cites The Gun Club, Blind Willie Johnson and T Rex as influences and has been described as a “raw brand of blues, boogie and soul”.
Mr Booker has produced two critically acclaimed studio albums, the first was a self-titled record released in 2014 followed by Witness last year.
Electronic Dance Music (EDM) duo Disclosure will take to the main stage later in the evening.
Disclosure, which features brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence, has been nominated twice at the Grammy Awards for their first and second studio albums Seattle and Caracal.
They have collaborated with the likes of Mary J Blige, Sam Smith, The Weeknd, Lorde, and Eliza Doolittle, to name a few.
All three-day ticket holders to the Grand Prix will be able to attend both concerts at no extra charge.
Friday-only tickets are available for those who wish to experience the entertainment side of the weekend.
Tickets for the 2018 Formula One Bahrain Gulf Air Grand Prix can be purchased from www.bahraingp.com, from the BIC stand at City Centre Bahrain or the BIC Hotline 17450000.
