FORMULA One fever soared to new heights yesterday as more drivers arrived in Bahrain to ‘Race with the Stars’ on Sunday, the second race of the new season.
Valtteri Bottas of champions Mercedes was among the new batch of drivers arriving yesterday along with Carlos Sainz of Renault, Pierre Gasly of Toro Rosso and Lance Stroll of Williams.
Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of The Formula One Group Chase Carey also arrived yesterday and he was welcomed by BIC chairman Arif Rahimi.
Rahimi emphasised the strong relationship between the BIC and Liberty Media as they continue their pursuit to deliver an ever-improving race spectacle for the pinnacle of global motor sport.
“We welcome Chase Carey and the rest of the Liberty senior management team. Over the last year, together with other F1 race promoters, we have been working closely with Liberty on many of the new and exciting changes to F1 in 2018,” said Rahimi.
The event kicks off today with the global launch of the Formula 1 Pirelli Hot Laps as part of the Formula 1 2018 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at the iconic Bahrain International Circuit, “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East”.
In leading up to the official start of the weekend’s events, a lucky group of fans will be treated to a series of exclusive activities under F1 Experiences – one of them being the all-new Hot Laps – as BIC and Formula 1 aim to bring fans closer to the sport.
The Formula 1 Pirelli Hot Laps offers motor sport lovers a mind-boggling chance to be driven around the track by a Formula 1 driver. This is scheduled for 4.20pm today.
Also for F1 Experiences guests today will be a Pit Lane Walk and a Truck Tour. The pit walk will be held from 7.15pm to 7.45pm, to be followed by the truck tour from 7.45pm to 8.15pm.
The F1 Experiences are happening for the first time ever in Bahrain.
The Pit Walk allows fans to have an amazing look into what happens in a Formula 1 team’s garage and along the pit lane. Those who take part might even be lucky enough to catch one of the sport’s star drivers make an appearance in the pits.
The Truck Tour includes a parade around the circuit in open-top buses.
Also today, a Pit Lane Walk open to all those with three-day tickets to the Grand Prix weekend will be held from 5pm to 6.45pm.
