Al Ahli defeated Malkiya 3-1, Muharraq drew with Al Shabab 0-0 and Manama held Riffa 1-1 last night in the 16th week of the Bahrain NBB First Division Football League.
In the first match, played at Khalifa Sports City Stadium, Al Ahli raised their hopes of remaining in the first division league with a crucial victory over defending champions Malkiya.
Malkiya led the first half of the match 1-0, thanks to their Syrian striker Isra Amer who scored in the dying minutes of the first half.
Al Ahli, however, roared back in the second half, scoring three goals.
Mahdi Hemaidan netted twice, in the 52nd and 88th minutes, while Hussain Salman scored in the 71st minute through a penalty kick to help the team clinch a memorable victory.
Al Ahli now have 15 points and are in with a chance to remain in the first division league. They are currently in the ninth place, while Malkiya remained in the third position with 27 points.
In the second match, held at same venue, Manama drew with Riffa 1-1.
Riffa scored through Abdulla Al Jazeeri in the 35th minute, before Manama equalised in the 77th minute through Brazilian Erick.
Manama are in the third place with 23 points while Riffa are eighth with 16 points.
In the match held at Bahrain National Stadium, Muharraq drew with Al Shabab 0-0.
Muharraq already are champions of this season’s league, and they remained on top with 39 points. Al Shabab, in fifth spot, have 20 points.
