LANDO Norris claimed pole position last night as he shone brightly under the stars in the FIA Formula 2 Championship’s season-opening qualifying run.
Norris registered a best lap of one minute 41.761 seconds following a highly competitive qualifying.
Fellow-Briton George Russell of ART Grand Prix followed in second position just 0.062 seconds adrift, while Alexander Albon of DAMS was third 0.089s back.
Nyck de Vries of Pertamina Prema Theodore Racing was fourth 0.119s from the top, while Louis Deletraz of Charouz Racing System claimed fifth, 0.413s off the pole-winning pace.
The first Formula 2 feature race of the new season is scheduled for today at 1.10pm. The result will determine the grid for tomorrow’s sprint race.
