AL Faisal Al Zubair of Oman captured pole position for both of this weekend’s races in the season’s final round of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East, one of the two support events of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Al Zubair topped the qualifying timesheet with a best overall lap time of two minutes 03.887 seconds. His second-best time of 2:04.021 was then good enough to claim the leading grid position for race two.
The double pole put Al Zubair in prime position to win the overall drivers’ title. He is currently just two points behind championship leader Tom Oliphant of Great Britain, who is not competing in the championship finale.
Classified second overall in qualifying was Briton Glynn Geddie with a lap of 2:03.899. Dutchman Charlie Frijns was third with a best time of 2:04.216.
The Team Bahrain pairing of Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa were fourth and fifth, respectively. Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla’s best lap was 2:04.258 and Shaikh Isa bin Salman’s 2:04.546.
Daniel Lu of China was sixth completing the front three rows for race one.
For race two, starting alongside Al Zubair will be Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla. Frijns and Shaikh Isa bin Salman make up row two, while in row three will be Geddie and France’s Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer.
The race two grid positions were determined by each driver’s second-fastest time in qualifying.
