Malkiya kept alive their chances of qualifying for the second round of the AFC Cup competition by defeating Oman’s Al Suwaiq 2-1 while Manama’s hopes vanished after losing 0-1 to Al Jaish of Syria yesterday.
In the fifth-round Group ‘A’ match played in Muscat, Malkiya led the first half 1-0, thanks to Sayed Hashim Sayed Isa who scored in the 12th minute.
Al Suwaiq scored the equaliser in the 60th minute through Khalid Al Hajri. However, Malkiya managed to hit the winning goal during the last two minutes through a penalty kick by Syrian striker Isra Amer.
In the other match of same group, both Al Jazeera of Jordan and Al Quwah Al Jawiya of Iraq drew 1-1.
Malkiya are in third place with six points while Al Jazeera are leading the group with 11 points and Al Quwah Al Jawiya are second with eight points. Al Suwaiq, who are without points, are in the fourth position.
Meanwhile, in a Group ‘B’ match played at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town, Manama were edged by Al Jaish with the only goal of the match coming in the 45th minute through Mohammed Radhwan.
In another match of same group, Al Ahad of Lebanon drew with Al Zawra of Iraq 1-1.
Al Ahad are leading the group with 9 points, followed by Al Zawra and Al Jaish with 6 points each, while Manama are fourth with one point.
