Laidback Romeo tipped to win Shaikh Faisal Cup

THREE feature events in a card of seven are the highlights of today’s horse racing at Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club in Sakhir.

The richest race of the day is for the Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa Cup for imported horses carrying a cash prize of BD12,000 and to be run over 1,600 metres, starting at 5.30pm.

This race has attracted the biggest field of 12 horses.

But Laidback Romeo, owned by Al Adiyat Racing, trained by Alan Smith and to be ridden by Andrew Elliott, is tipped to win this race ahead of Vale Do Sol and Mutahaady.

Harash, owned by Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, trained by James Naylor and to be ridden by Harry Bentley, is the favourite to win the Shaikh Isa bin Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa Cup for locally bred horses carrying a cash prize of BD3,000 and to be run over 1,600 metres, starting at 5.05pm.

Wayne Looney and Farange are the second and third favourites respectively.

Taqaseem, owned by Ahmed Yusuf Abdulla, trained by Jaffar Marzooq and to be ridden by Ali Samir, is the best bet to win the Late Yousif Rashid Bouresly Cup carrying a cash prize of BD2,000 and to be run over 2,400 metres, starting 4.40pm.

Jumeirah Glory and Equivalent are the second and third favourites respectively.

Smallest

The day’s action kicks off at 3pm with the first of the four support races which carries a cash prize of BD1,500 and to be run over 2,200 metres.

This race has attracted the smallest field of five horses.

But Asir, owned by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, trained by James Naylor and to be ridden by Jimmy Quinn, looks in best shape to win this race ahead of its nearest challengers Khamila and Lazaal.

Ramani, owned by Al-Afoo Racing Stable, trained by Hussain Aldailami and to be ridden by Gerald Avranche, is expected to win the race for locally bred horses carrying a cash prize of BD1,500 and to be run over 1,200 metres, starting at 3.25pm.

Al Nimra and Dushanbe are expected to give the favourite a run for its money.

Kuheilaan Aafas 1695, owned by Al Wasmiya, trained by Abdulla Kuwaiti and to be ridden by Jimmy Quinn, is tipped to win the race for Arabian horses carrying a cash prize of BD1,500 and to be run over 1,200 metres straight, starting at 3.50pm.

Kuheilaan Aafas 1708 and Musannaan 1689 are the second and third favourites respectively.

George The First, owned by Hussain Jaleel Abdulla Mansoori, trained by Yousif Alboainain and to be ridden by Abdulla Faisal, is the favourite to win the handicap race carrying a cash prize of BD1,500 and to be ridden over 1,200 metres, starting at 4.15pm.

Sir Charlie Kunz and Dodger Marley are the second and third favourites respectively.
