WORK on the expansion of Wali Al Ahad Highway in Riffa is 88 per cent complete, it was announced
The 2.6km highway is considered the main road connecting Riffa to the Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Highway, and the registered traffic movement is around 80,000 vehicles daily.
Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf inspected work being carried out at the site and was accompanied by assistant under-secretary for roads Huda Fakhro, roads projects and maintenance director Sayyed Bader Alawi and other officials.
Work includes expanding the highway to three lanes in each direction and revamping all intersections along the highway, re-constructing the highway infrastructure, constructing brick pavements, implementing a rainwater drainage network, lighting, traffic signs and the protection of existing services.
A number of traffic diversions will be implemented on the site in the upcoming two weeks to finalise pavement work in both directions.
