BAHRAIN scored an thrilling six-wicket victory with three balls to spare over Maldives yesterday in the ICC World T20 Asian Region Qualifying Tournament in Kuwait City.
Batting first, Maldives reached 140 for five in their 20 overs with MNR Cooray the top scorer with a 51-ball 65 (6 four, 2 six) while Mohammed Iqbal Noor, Imran Anwar and Zeeshan Abbas claimed a wicket each.
In reply, Bahrain got off to a good start with opener Shahbaz Badar (56, 43 balls, 2 four, 1 six) and Yasser Nazir (24, 33 balls, 2 four) putting on 61 runs in 10 overs.
It was Bahrain’s first victory in the tournament following their defeat to Saudi Arabia on Friday.
UAE top the table with two successive victories and Bahrain are fifth with two points.
In other matches yesterday, Qatar beat Kuwait and the UAE scored over Saudi Arabia.
Today is a rest day. Bahrain faces the UAE in their next match on Monday.
