Muharraq defeated Al Ahli 3-1 to capture the Bahrain NBB First Division Football League title for the 34th time during the last week of competition yesterday at Bahrain National Stadium pitch in Isa Town.
As early as three weeks before the end of the league, Muharraq had already been declared champions and their victory against Al Ahli proved to be a fitting climax to another successful campaign.
Muharraq led the first half 1-0 with Ismael Abdullatif scoring in the 18th minute. In the second half, Muharraq scored the second goal in the 64th minute through Mohammed Sola.
Al Ahli reduced the margin through a penalty kick scored by Hussain Salman in the 67th minute.
Muharraq then scored the third goal in the 84th minute through Abdullatif again to lead his team to victory.
Muharraq wrapped up their campaign this season on top of the table with 45 points, while Al Ahli were officially relegated to the second division, as they finished in ninth place with 16 points.
Honours
After the match, the Bahrain Football Association president Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa presented the league title and gold medals to Muharraq team members.
He also honoured Al Najma team members with second-place silver medals, and Malkiya with bronze medals.
In another match, Al Najma drew with Malkiya 3-3.
Malkiya led the first half 2-1, as Al Najma scored in the 36th minute through Uchenna Agba, before Malkiya found his target in the last five minutes. Soriola Gigi scored the equaliser in the 43rd minute and Isra Amer in the injury time by penalty kick.
Malkiya scored the third goal in the second half through Ahmed Yousif in the 56th minute, before Al Najma scored two goals through Agba in the 58th minute and Alexander Silva in the 80th minute.
Al Najma finished the season in second place with 30 points and Malkiya in fourth place with 28 points.
