BAHRAIN yesterday went down fighting to Kuwait by 23 runs in the ICC World T20 Asia Region Qualifying Tournament in Kuwait City.
It was Bahrain’s third defeat in four matches. They had earlier lost to Saudi Arabia and the UAE and beat Maldives.
In yesterday’s match, Kuwait reached a challenging 153 for six in their 20 overs with Usman Waheed (25, 27 balls, 3 four), Arjun Makesh (26, 31 balls, 1 four) and Ali Zaheer (26, 22 balls, 1 six) the main scorers.
Imran Anwar (2-47) and Sikder Billah (2-47) were the main wicket-takers for Bahrain.
In reply, Bahrain were bowled out for 130 in 19.4 overs with Prashant Kurup (43, 42 balls, 5 four) being the top scorer.
Makesh claimed four wickets for 21 runs for Kuwait.
In other matches yesterday, Qatar beat Maldives by 43 runs and Saudi Arabia edged out Qatar by four wickets with seven balls remaining.
Today is a rest day. In tomorrow’s matches, Bahrain take on Qatar, Saudi clash with Maldives and Kuwait meet the undefeated UAE, who continue to lead the table with eight points after four matches.
Qatar (6) are second, followed by Saudi and Kuwait (4 each) and Bahrain (2). Maldives are at the bottom with no points.
