An Indian Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable jumped out of a moving MRTS (Mass Rapid Transit System) train at the Park station in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, got into the adjacent compartment of the train and rescued a woman from the clutches of a 26-year-old man who was attempting to rape her on Monday night, The Hindu newspaper reported.
According to the police, K Shivaji, 26, heard the screams of a woman, who was in the next compartment, when the train left the Chintadripet station. He could not enter that compartment as it was not vestibular. When the train arrived at the Park station, he jumped out and entered the adjacent compartment.
On spotting a man attempting to rape a woman, he pushed the man away and rescued her. The 25-year-old woman was sent to hospital for treatment.
The accused, identified as Sathyaraj, was nabbed and handed over to the Egmore Government Railway Police.
