A STUDY has found that each week surgeons around the globe leave a foreign object, such as a sponge, inside a patient’s body, perform wrong procedures or operate on the wrong body part.
The study conducted by Maryland-based Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine recorded 39 incidents of objects left behind in the body in 2012, and 20 incidents each of wrong procedures and operating on the wrong part of the body .
