The first-ever Baby Games will commence today with more than 1,000 kids from 29 nurseries and 37 pre-schools in the fray.
The event, organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee, takes place at the Bahrain Volleyball Association hall in Riffa.
The Games will feature four sports – athletics, gymnastics, football and basketball – targeting children aged between two and four. It is aimed to create awareness among youngsters to practice sports exercises and promote Olympic principles and values at a young age.
The organising committee, headed by chairman Lounes Madene, held a technical meeting with representatives of the participants as well as the Education Ministry and Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs at National Stadium to explain the rules and regulations. Madene expressed satisfaction with the training programme.
Meanwhile, the event has received a major sponsorship boost from Mothercare and Lulu Group, according to BOC marketing head Mahmood Ashori.
