Kuwait: Kuwaiti Oil Minister Bakheet Al Rasheedi today survived a vote of no-confidence over alleged administrative and financial violations, squandering public funds and misuse of powers, Al Qabas reported.
Thirty-four members of the National Assembly voted against the motion of no-confidence. Ten MPs had lodged a motion of no-confidence against the oil minister last week.
The motion required 25 votes in the 50-member assembly to pass. Cabinet ministers are banned from voting on such motions, and only elected MPs can take part.
If the motions are passed, the ministers will be dismissed with immediate effect, something that has not happened in Kuwait’s democratic history, which began in 1962.
