Muharraq and Al Najma reach semis

Muharraq defeated Al Shabab 2-1 to claim the second semi-final berth in Group ‘A’ of the Elite Football Cup Competition played last night at Al Ahli Club Stadium.

At Bahrain National Stadium, Al Najma battled Al Hidd to a thrilling 2-2 draw to also advance into the round of four.

In the semi-final on Sunday, Muharraq will face Al Hidd, while Al Najma will face Malkiya.

Al Hidd have already qualified for the next round even before the match. They led the group with four points in Group ‘B’, while Al Najma barged into the next round by placing second with two points. Al Najma earlier drew with Manama 1-1 in their first match.

Al Najma’s goals were scored by Mohammed Fares in the 34th and 80th, while Al Hidd’s goals came from Daeo in the 48th minute and Abdulla Saqer in the 69th minute.

With the win, Muharraq placed second in the group behind early qualifiers Malkiya who have six points, while Al Shabab are in the bottom with no points

Ismael Abdullatif put Muharraq on top in the first half after scoring in the 39th minute before Mohammed Saleh found his target in the 48th minute for their 2-0 lead.

Al Shabab reduced the margin through Sayed Ibrahim Al Mahaftha’s goal in the 63rd minute but Muharraq took control the rest of the way for a fine win.
