MANAMA: Twenty-three MPs are threatening to disrupt next week’s parliament session, claiming they have been left in the dark about negotiations with the government over a new-look social welfare system, reports Mohammed Al A’Ali.
They sent a petition to parliament chairman Ahmed Al Mulla yesterday demanding answers.
It also criticised the lengthy process of talks between the government and National Assembly representatives.
“Negotiations should have ended on February 14 and now we are more than three months from that deadline,” it says. “We are worried, the public is worried and we fear the outcome would be catastrophic.
“We regret any removal or decrease of any subsidy or allowance – and will take a stand until we get clear answers and guarantees.”
It wasn’t until this week that the government presented a proposed payment structure for the new benefits system
