Thousands of taxis are being fitted with surveillance cameras to monitor drivers’ conduct with customers.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that it has fitted 6,500 cameras which will be used to assess drivers’ compliance with the driving and moral standards, according to Albayan.
“The remaining fleet of 3,721 taxis will also be fitted with surveillance cameras late this year”, said RTA Transportation Systems Director Adel Shakri.
He said that the camera footage can be retrieved and used in probing any complaints or violations – in line with the strategic goal of "People Happiness" and fits the needs of the Smart City initiative.
