AHMED Abduljabbar scored the daily high series late on Monday night as qualifying continued in The Godfathers Tournament, currently being played at Funland Centre’s bowling lanes in Manama.
Abduljabbar’s total of 761 raised his average to 223.6 with an overall aggregate of 2,012 from his three best series to date. His other two top marks include scores of 671 and 580.
With his outing, Abduljabbar climbed to sixth place on the group ‘A’ standings where Emerson Gotencio continues to lead.
Gotencio also improved his average and now sits on a 248.6 pins-per-game count. He was able to score another fine series of 749, to add to his other scores of 758 and 730 to take his overall mark to 2,237 in first place.
Ahmed Al Malki remained in second with a 238.1 average and 2,143 total (731, 709, 703); while Tony Balabbo kept his place in third with a 236.6 mark from an overall aggregate of 2,143 (731, 709, 689).
Meanwhile, Shaker Daraj lit up the lanes for the second day in a row after scoring a 676 series – the high for participants in group ‘B’.
Daraj’s outing raised his average to 224.7, to go with an overall score of 2,022. His other top series are 720 and 626. Daraj moved up to second position overall in his division, just behind leader Isa Khalid who owns a 227.6 average and 2,048 total (707, 680, 661).
Ali Abdulla is ranked third with a 220.2 average and a 1,982 aggregate score (692, 661, 629).
In group ‘C’, Mohammed Daraj posted the day’s high series of 650. He has played only one other series of 630, which brings his average to 142.6 from a 1,283 score. He rose to 12th place in his division.
Siddiq Siddiq is in first place with an average of 212.8 and an overall total of 1,915 (648, 643, 624). Ranked second was Sami Saloom with a 210.6 average and 1,895 total (642, 628, 625). Moving into third place was Mohammed Al Ali with marks of 197.2 and 1,775 (646, 571, 558).
The tournament is being held in honour of the late Murtadha Qudrat Rasti and the late Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.
Qualification
The qualification round continues until June 9. Trials in this opening round are being played every evening at Funland, with participants being divided into three groups depending on their skill level. Bowlers can play as many trials as they need, but only their top three will be counted.
At the end of qualifying, the first and second from each group advance directly to round three while those ranked third through 12th move on to round two.
A total prize purse of $4,500 is up for grabs in the tournament, with $3,200 going to the champion.
