Jeddah – A proposed system aimed at criminalising harassment targeting women will top the agenda of the Shura Council on Monday.
The Social Affairs, Family and Youth submitted a report to be debated at the council, following a royal order issued by the Saudi monarch King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.
The proposed system, which features eight articles, aims at combating all aspects of harassment targeting women, enforce the law on violators and protect individual privacy, dignity and personal liberties.
The Saudi leader had directed the Ministry of Interior to draw up the anti-harassment system and take the necessary measure to ensure its implementation.
Under the proposed system, anyone convicted of harassing women could be sentenced up 15 years in jail and fined SR3 million.
