JM Villanueva scored the daily high series late on Wednesday night as qualifying continued in The Godfathers Tournament at Funland Centre.
Villanueva posted an impressive total of 737 pins to raise his average to 237.3 and move to fifth in Group ‘A’ standings. He also boasts an overall aggregate of 2,136 from his three best series so far, with his other two top scores being 702 and 697.
Staying atop the leader board was Emerson Gotencio with a 248.6 average and 2,237 total (758, 749, 730), ahead of Yousif Al Dolijan, who has a 239.9 average and 2,159 total (784, 705, 670). Tony Balabbo is third with 239.8 and 2,158 (731, 718, 709).
Elsewhere in the tournament on Wednesday, Ali Abdulla registered the high series in Group ‘B’ with 715 pins while Mohammed Daraj made his mark once again in Group ‘C’ with a high series of 617.
Abdulla’s fine outing helped raise his average to 229.8 pins per game with a total of 2,068. With his two other top scores being 692 and 661, he is now in first place in the standings.
Following him was Shaker Daraj with marks of 228.9 and 2,060 (720, 676, 664), while in third place was Isa Khalid with a 227.6 average and a 2,048 aggregate score (707, 680, 661).
In Group ‘C’, Daraj’s high series of 617 added to his two other totals of 650 and 633 to bring his overall count to 1,900 for a 211.1 average. That was enough for him to climb to second position in their division.

Siddiq Siddiq stayed in first place with a 218.6 average and 1,967 total (676, 648, 643) while completing the top three was Sami Saloom with a 210.6 average and 1,895 total (642, 628, 625).
The tournament is being held in honour of the late Murtadha Qudrat Rasti and the late Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.
A total prize purse of $4,500 is up for grabs in the tournament with $3,200 going to the champion.
