Work is on in full swing to dig a 3.2 kilometre-long tunnel in Dubai. The massive project aims to connect the metro line to the location, which will host the 2020 Expo, reported Al Bayan.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is undertaking the drilling of the tunnel whose depth ranges from 12 to 136 metres.
The work of the tunnel is progressing as planned with key-tunneling phase already completed.
Work on the massive project was given the green light last October in the vicinity of the Discovery Gardens before reaching the underground station near Jumeirah Golf Estates last February.
A major section linking Dubai Investment Park to the final point at the Green Community has also been completed, using the the giant tunnel boring machine, Al Wugeisha, to crush stones and penetrate through sandy layers or any other soil components encountered during the drilling process.
The metro viaducts are set for completion in November this year, and all railway works of the project would be accomplished in July 2019. The trial run of the metro would start in February 2020.
