'Blue Whale' claims life of teenaged Saudi girl

GDN Online Desk

The Saudi authorities have launched an inquiry into the circumstances of the death of a teenager, Sabq reported.

The 13-year-old girl was found hanging at her family’s house in Medina.

According to initial investigation, the girl might have killed herself under the effect of the deadly online game, called "Blue Whale Challenge".

A Saudi boy aged 12 committed suicide a few days ago in the city of Abha, due to the Blue Whale game.

The death of the Saudi girl is the latest across the Middle East, following a spate of suicides in different countries in the region in recent times.

The game has reportedly claimed nearly 100 lives in India in the past year.

The deadly online game challenges players for over 50 days, demanding them to complete tasks given by an anonymous controller.

It initially asks the player to draw a whale on a piece of paper, then carve a whale figure on their body, and then gives other tasks such as watching horror movies alone at odd hours.

The task concludes with the final challenge, that is, committing suicide.
