A SPECIAL Japanese award for people contributing to bilateral relations with Japan was conferred on the late Mubarak Kanoo, the former president of the Bahrain-Japan Business and Friendship Society.

At a function hosted by Japanese Ambassador Hideki Ito at his residence in Barbar, Mr Kanoo’s daughter Mona Kanoo received the ‘Order of Rising Sun’ on behalf of her father.

The medal was the first national decoration awarded by the Japanese government in April 1857 and is awarded to those who have made distinguished achievements in international relations, promotion of Japanese culture, advancements in their field, development in welfare or preservation of the environment.

The function was attended by government officials, Bahrain-Japan Business and Friendship Society members, diplomats and members of the Kanoo family.
