A NEW project aimed at easing traffic congestion at a key intersection in Bahrain has been launched.
The development of a right-turn lane on a roundabout on Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Highway in Block 1204 aims to reduce traffic congestion and ease traffic flow.
The Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry confirmed the project would ease traffic jams by transferring traffic travelling from the west on Wali Al Ahd Highway to Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Highway towards Zallaq by increasing the capacity of the road to 900 vehicles per hour.
The project will also contribute to reducing delays across the entire intersection by 10 per cent while contributing to improving traffic movement and reducing traffic congestion by 25pc.
The current number of vehicles passing through the intersection on a daily basis is around 50,000 cars and this project will serve residents from Hamad Town and Buri.
The work is part of a second roads optimisation package launched in response to directives issued by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.
