MANAMA: A blast shattered glass windows and doors of a 10-storey apartment building in Hoora yesterday.

Tenants of the building were evacuated by firemen as two people suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The GDN was at the scene and witnessed shattered glass and metal rods strewn across the ground, with broken windows on multiple floors and a heavy police presence. The cause of the blast was still unclear at the time of Press.

However, the Interior Ministry said on its official Twitter account that the building was evacuated after a loud sound was heard from inside the property.

“Civil Defence evacuated a 10-storey building in Hoora after reporting a loud sound that damaged the doors and windows of the building,” it said.

“Two individuals sustained minor injuries. Initial details indicate that the sound was from the kitchen of a flat on the third floor.”

One witness told the GDN that the blast was so loud he could hear it from a neighbouring building. “I heard a boom but couldn’t leave my post as I am a receptionist,” said the Indian national who works at an adjacent hotel.
