Abu Dhabi – The UAE authorities have halted imports of all species of domestic and wild live birds, ornamental birds, chicks, hatching eggs and their non-heat-treated waste from East Malaysia (the states of Sabah and Sarawak).
The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment announced the ban which applies also to imports of poultry meat and non-heat-treated by-products
Imports of thermally-treated poultry products (meat and eggs) from all regions of Malaysia have not been prohibited.
The ban is based on a notification issued by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on August 6, announcing the outbreak of a highly contagious strain of H5N1 bird flu on a farm in East Malaysia.
