India’s 72nd Independence Day will be marked with a flag-hoisting ceremony at the Indian Embassy complex in Seef District at 6.45am today.
All Indian nationals, including families, living in Bahrain, are invited to attend the event at the embassy which is located at Building 1090, Road 2819, Block 428.
The mission started functioning from its new $7.43 million complex in Seef District in October last year.
During a visit to Bahrain in July 2018, Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj noted that the new embassy was “an embodiment of the historical and civilisational connect between the two countries”.
She was on a two-day visit to co-chair the second meeting of the India-Bahrain High Joint Commission at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain.
Also in July, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa predicted a new strategic partnership between Bahrain and India.
He was speaking as Ms Swaraj held talks with Bahrain’s leadership and signed several key agreements to strengthen historic links.
During their talks, His Majesty King Hamad underlined the keenness of both nations to bolster relations, mainly in trade and economy.
In August 2017, the GDN reported that a trade centre was to be set up at the new Indian Embassy complex.
Indian Ambassador Alok Kumar Sinha told the GDN at the time that Indian investments in Bahrain had surpassed $1 billion, and Foreign Direct Investments in India from Bahrain increased at an average of $50 million to $60m in the past three years.
Meanwhile, a flag-hoisting ceremony will also be held at 6.45am at the Kerala Catholic Association, Segaiya today.
