VIDEO: Stray lion sparks panic in Kuwait

Kuwait City: A shocking video has emerged on social media that shows a stray lion roaming on a road with many vehicles around.

According to reports, the Kuwaiti authorities intervened promptly and caught the big cat which sparked panic among people.

A team from the Public Security and the Department of Environment Police rushed to the location and gave the wild beast an injection.

“The lion was caught quickly and taken to a zoo to undergo the necessary check-ups”, said Animal Resources acting director-general at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Dr. Ali Al-Qattan.

He said that the lion had fled from the neighbourhood of Kabad, pointing out that co-ordination is being stepped up with the Ministry of Interior to identify the owner of the beast and take legal measures against him.

The Kuwaiti authorities had issued warning against keeping wild animals, vowing tough legal measures against violators.

This is not the first a lion is spotted in a public area in Kuwait. Alanba newspaper cited a previous incident in which a stray lion killed a maidservant in the street.
