Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel Humaidan yesterday visited the Muharraq Social Welfare Centre to share Eid Al Adha joy with the elderly.
The minister, accompanied by members of the National Committee for the Elderly and board members of the Muharraq Social Welfare Centre, congratulated the inmates and were assured about their health and living conditions. Eid gifts were also presented.
The minister stressed the government’s keenness to provide the best services, as well as social, health, legal and rehabilitation programmes for the elderly, in co-operation with NGOs and the private sector.
The government’s interest in the elderly is embodied in the varied services provided for the elderly by the Labour and Social Development Ministry, he said, noting that they enjoy all kinds of protection and care.
Mr Humaidan stressed the need to enhance co-operation between the ministry and the National Committee for the Elderly to develop programmes, with the participation of the government and private sector parties.
