A five-year-old Bahraini child drowned in a pool in Busaiteen this morning.
According to the Interior Ministry, the child had drowned in the home’s pool around 10 am.
There have been five drownings so far this year, the latest a 15-year-old Pakistani boy, Abrar Shubair, who died at a private facility in Malkiya on August 4.
The four other drownings this year claimed the lives of 18-month-old Sayed Mahmood Sayed Ali, who fell into a fish tank at his uncle’s house in Duraz on March 15; Five-year-old Ali Jassim Al Hesabi, who drowned in a makeshift pool in Dar Kulaib on March 19; an unnamed domestic worker who drowned in a swimming pool at a house in Barbar on May 7; and an unnamed 21-year-old Bahraini who drowned in a swimming pool at a gym in Al Farafa on May 16.
More than 90 people have drowned in Bahrain in just over five years, according to the latest data.
That is the equivalent of more than one every month.
