US Embassy in Cairo “on lockdown” after blast

Cairo –  A man has been detained after throwing an explosive device near the US Embassy in Cairo, Reuters reported. 

The US Embassy warned people to not attempt to reach the area for their own safety. 

Issuing a warning on Twitter, they said: "We are aware of a reported incident on Simon Bolivar Street in Cairo. Please avoid the area and monitor local media for updates."

"We are aware of reports that public transportation near the area has been disrupted due to the incident. Please exercise caution. "US Citizens should/not come to the Embassy at this time. Please email”.
