Riyadh – Fire broke out at an eight-storey hotel in the city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

The civil defence firefighters evacuated 325 customers after thick columns of black smoke started to billow from the building.

They managed to put out the blaze which first broke out in a room on the second floor of the hotel, which is located in the neighbourhood of Al-Thagher.

Mecca Civil Defence spokesman Colonel Said Sarhan said that the blaze left no casualties. Customers were then allowed to return to their rooms. An inquiry is underway to determine the causes of the blaze.
