MANAMA: Huawei, a global ICT solutions provider, has signed up as “diamond” sponsor of the upcoming Bahrain International eGovernment Forum and IT Expo 2018, the organiser Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) announced yesterday.

The sponsorship agreement was signed by iGA communications and marketing acting director and organising committee chairwoman Lulwa Ebrahim and Huawei Bahrain chief executive John Luyuedong in the presence of forum organising committee vice-chairman Ahmed Naeemi, who is also in charge of the sponsorship committee.

Thanking Huawei for its sponsorship, Ms Ebrahim said the partnership was part of a series of activities targeted at developing new scope for public-private collaboration on various levels.

“We are proud of sponsoring such an event which has proved its success and value for nine years, locally and regionally, in developing the ICT sector in Bahrain as well as initiating the eGovernment transformation since then,” said Mr Luyuedong.

“At Huawei, we seek to support Bahrain’s digital journey which aims at expanding revenues, increasing productivity and positioning the kingdom as a competitive economy on the international map. We see the development of local ICT talent and skills playing a vital role as advanced economies are not able to achieve long-term development goals without innovation and technologies,” he added.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement it was announced that Bahrain Institute for Banking and Finance (BIBF) has become the official knowledge partner for the Bahrain International eGovernment Forum 2018.

iGA chief executive Mohamed Al Qaed said, “BIBF is well-known for its thought leadership in knowledge and training for the development of the economy. iGA will be working closely with BIBF with the aim of enriching the learning experience for participants through offering interactive forum sessions and showcasing latest technologies. The forum is also a great opportunity for networking between business professionals and to learn more about latest ICT offerings and solutions.”

BIBF director Dr Ahmed Al Shaikh said the collaboration is aligned with BIBF’s objectives and initiatives to keep up with the latest technology trends and offer new learning opportunities to the market.

The institute, he said, is committed to support both the private and public sectors in the kingdom, and through the collaboration with iGA, its aim is to encourage knowledge transfer and learning experiences for all sectors.

The forum and expo is being held on October 7 and 8 at the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain, under the patronage of Deputy Prime Minister and Supreme Committee for Information and Communications Technology chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa.

From every region of the globe; more than 20 internationally recognised speakers are to take part in the forum with ICT professionals expected to exceed 500 senior officials, delegates and participants from the private and public sectors.
