MANAMA: Ambassadors, hoteliers and business owners attended a select menu-tasting at La Pergola by Perbellini, the rebranded Italian restaurant at Gulf Hotel Bahrain Convention and Spa.
Michelin starred chef Giancarlo Perbellini has taken charge of the restaurant after an extensive redesign and refurbishment costing more than BD200,000.
The new outlet is his first in the Middle East, expanding his portfolio of restaurants in Italy, the US and Hong Kong, which includes the Michelin Star Casa Perbellini in Verona, the Michelin Star Dopolavoro in Venice, the popular Locanda restaurant in Kowloon and the Rana in New York.
The “Artisan Cook” as he likes to call himself, chef Perbellini initially worked in the family patisserie where he developed a passion for pastry-making and cuisine to which he decided to dedicate his studies and career.
Gulf Hotels Group chief executive Garfield Jones said: “La Pergola is one of the renowned Italian restaurants in Bahrain and we are delighted to be able to work with chef Perbellini to take the outlet to a whole new level. We expect great things from chef Perbellini who will deliver the very best in Italian cuisine.”
Chef Perbellini said: “The Gulf Hotel and the existing La Pergola restaurant are part of the history of Bahrain and my team and I are looking forward to contributing to the future history by bringing a whole new style to the restaurant and delivering a Michelin style Italian journey.”
The restaurant is expected to be opened to diners shortly.
