A huge whale washed up on the shores of Al Qahma centre, in the province of Asir in Saudi Arabia, according to Sabq.
Border security patrols first spotted the dead humpback whale about five kilometres offshore, away from the fishermen’s jetty.
The Ministry of the Environment, Water and Agriculture then dispatched a specialised team to identify the species whale and study the cause of its death.
A team representing border guards, the department of fisheries and Al Qahma municipality was set up to bury the baleen whale, ten metres from the beach.
The authorities are planning to display the skeleton in a museum in the province, once the body is fully decomposed.
The humpback whale is a species of baleen whale. An adult ranges in length from 12–16 metres and weighs around 25–30 metric tons (28–33 short tons).
