Muscat – The overall number of expatriates living in Oman dropped by 26,337 in one month by the end of August 2018, compared to the end July 2018.
National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), Muscat population dropped by 0.43% to stand at 1.46 million during the same period.
Expatriates living in Muscat governorate stand at 922,309, outnumbering Oman nationals who stand at 546,362.
Apart from Muscat, the Dhofar is the only governorate where expatriates outnumber citizens. The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) surveyed 234, 104 expatriates and 218, 138 Omani nationals in Dhofar.
Expatriates in the private sector dropped 4.1 while in the government sector it dropped 2.6 per cent.
The construction sector has seen the major decline by 8.5 per cent to 581,142 by August 2018.
Going with the trend, the number of private vehicles registered in Oman declined by 45.6 per cent at the end of August 2018, compared to same period a year ago.
The number of new private vehicles registered in August 2018 were 3,041, while in July 2018 it was 4,983 and 5,390 in June.
